WinkSound Sound News 210 Rick: Hey what’s going on you’re watching WinkSound.com. I’m Rick. Mateo: And I’m Mateo and in this video we’re going to go behind the scenes of googles new audio centric add for chrome. Rick: Justin and Chris will stop by to share the latest tips and tricks between Logic Studio and Battery 3. When you check out the must watched videos from WinkSound.com community featuring Pro Tools, Amplitude and Logic Studio. Mateo: Plus we’ll check out our new segment Beat Roulette while we check out the latest beats coming out of people’s home studios. Rick: Hey guys thanks for watching have you guys caught the new Google ad for their chrome web browser has the key car kinds of hits a little speaker thing and splashes a near with paint. So we found a video the team over at Google will show you exactly how they put this cool little ad together. Male: The trigger in this one is the boot falling from the top of this frame. The double base pedal hits the mouse which clicks chrome and then also hits the key tar key at the same time. Male: It’s the drum that shoots the paint. Male: That’s corn syrup mixed with— we got the wrong consistency together and it’s a lot. Male: What’s the right frequency what’s the right volume, the right kind of speaker and the right viscosity and density of the paint itself. Male: We paint around with a lot of things to set off I mean just technically what you hit quickly to make a blast and then along came the key tar and everything changed form there on. Rick: We love to hear from many of you guys who finally this videos is kind of like the one we just showed with google or anything happening to you with the music production send it over and we’ll show case them in the segment. Mateo: That’s right so now Justin is going to come up and he’s going to show you how to stop your samples from overlapping each other when you use Battery 3. Justin: Hey what’s up guys this is Justin@WinkSound.com if you’re ever working with loops or samples within battery 3 you might find that every time you trigger that loop or sample it tends to overlap itself. In this video I’ll show you how to stop that overlap and every time you trigger that sample or loop it will start from the beginning so let’s check it out. Okay so in working with loops and battery you hit MIDI key that controls that loop you start to get overlap happening so let me play that for you really quick. Okay so in order to stop that overlap what you want to do is go to the set up tab, go to where it says voice group and choose a voice group that you haven’t used or that you haven’t made any changes to so as you can see now the maximum voice changed to one and the voice overlap changed to 10. So what you want to do is leave the max voice at 1 and change the voice overlap to 1 as well. Okay so now I’ll play the root but as you can hear it’s not going to overlap itself and it will go right back to the beginning every time the key is hit. Check out WinkSound at the iTune store to subscribe to the podcast, listen to some music and download the frequency iPhone app that will keep you up-to-date with all of the latest releases from WinkSound studios. Just search for WinkSound at the iTune store. Male: Squishy, horror sci fi kind of just gross sounds. [Demo] Beat Roulette Mateo: So here are the most watched videos from the WinkSound.com community. That’s right this videos come from members just like you from all over the world who’ve uploaded their videos to WinkSound.com to share their knowledge of music production with the community. So if you have anything you would like to share simply upload your video to WinkSound.com and let us know about it and we might feature it in the segment. Soundslogical shows you how to mix, kick and snare drums within Logic Studio. SoundsLogical: It definitely sounds weak. Well my favorite thing to do with snares is to actually distort them. I like to add a bit of a high harmonic distortion which I find gives that to punch and crack that I’m looking for and my favorite plugin to do that with this came audio CamePhat because it has 4 different distortion settings and they all sound great to my ears but because I want to keep this neutral I want to use only logic plugins for today we’re going to replace that with Logics distortion too. So here’s the distortion plugin. I’m going to choose the bitey algorithm because that’s what I want. I want bite. Rick: Dreamsite production explains how to set up your ins and outs in Pro Tools. Dreamsite: Say your EQ is always connected to the end of your interface on one or two you can name it as such as the EQ outgoes into 1 and 2. The compressor outgoes into 3 and 4 or you can even break it down further. Now these are all stereotypes here that handle 2 inputs at a time but you can open a little folder kind of thing here then it brings on the mono signal path as well. Now say you always use the same mic say my 5 and 6 mic are always used for when I’m recording a rock band or a drum set rather now I’m using it for kick drum. Mateo: Justamusicman demonstrates how to control amplitude with an external MIDI device. Justamusicman: I’m using a Behringer FCB 10 and this is my handy MAC editor FCB which I use for all my FCB 10 programming works really, really well. So what I think we’ll do is again tube is looking for 1 through 6 for stop boxes slots 1 through 6 I think just for this we’ll use 1 through 5. You can always have 6 sets not a problem and then 2 others to do the preset navigation. Rick: Make sure you follow winksound on Twiter and Facebook and stay connected to a stream of new videos as well as school music production links. Twitter.com/WinkSound or search for WinkSound on Facebook. Next we got Chris he’s going to show you how to use a Phat Tempo feature within Logic Studio and this is awesome in if you got an acapella or something you’ll know the BPM or tempo off just got the little button and I’ll tell you right away. Mateo: That’s right and if you have a question for Chris or any of the content producers featured on WinkSound.com simply write through their name at WinkSound.com and they’ll get back to you with an answer. Chris: Now we want to go to the tap tempo feature so we’re simply going to type in tap at the top right here and you can see tap tempo select that and now you can see I already have a few command setup for mine I use the equal button but you don’t have one setup simply make sure that you have the tap tempo selected and then go to learn by key position select that. Now simply type in whatever the key command is that you want to use so once you have a key command setup you can simply close out this window and now the next thing they want to do is you want to make sure that you have the sync button open at the bottom of your screen which is this button right here they sync button. If you don’t want to have the sync button down there it’s not a big issue, you can open one up pretty quickly just by right clicking at the bottom of your screen peripheries and a laptop simply control and click. Now select that window that pops up right there. Now you’ll see where it’s a sync right here just simply make sure selected ones that is the case hit okay. And now you want to select the sync button to simply click on it you’ll see that a blue outline has appeared at the top extreme that means you’re good to go but now I just want to tap the tempo of the song of the new tempo that I want to put into the song simply by tapping the equal button because that’s my command but simply tap the key command that you set up for tap tempo at the rate that you want to put the new tempo. Mateo: Hey guys this is the end of the show as always thank you so much for watching and if you took anything away from these tutorials please share it with your friends. Rick: That’s right and check out any of the videos featured in this segment or any videos featuring music production Logic, Reason, Ableton, Pro Tools or so much more check out WinkSound.com the new social video network for audio creatives.
