WinkSound Webisode 207 Rick: Hey what’s going on you’re watching WinkSound.com. I’m Rick. Mateo: And I’m Mateo. Rick: In this video featured member Disney Fingers will explain how to create a depth style base in Logic. Mateo: Which they got the most watched video from the WinkSound.com Community featuring Ableton, Reason and Pro Tools. Rick: And Justin will show you how to favor your plugins in pro tools. Hey what’s going on everybody thanks so much for joining us as you can see we took it out of a studio today and we’re up here in our beautiful Brooklyn Studios just hanging out and checking out the vibe you know Brooklyn is a super creative city so many creatives here and so many audio creatives here and we hopefully will have a basic production tutorial in store just for you. We should get off with a featured producer. Mateo: Yes and once you got Disney Fingers is going to show you how to make a dub-style delay in Logic Studios. So Disney fingers take it away. Disney: I’ll drag this guy over to here it’s going to choke because I deleted the samples themselves so it’s going to throw an error and say I cannot find samples. I’m just going to continue and what I want to do is actually put in an ultra beep kit instead and that will. I can choose like dub kit 2 and let’s see how it sounds. Okay that reverb is a little too much so let’s go and fix that to find out which actual note it is. I think it’s that one so I could do a zoom in a bit and choose it and put on— as well. And then this one, what about this one. So now at least I’ve got something different with the kit so I’m going to option click these and start this compressor in so pretty dry sound stuff here but here’s where the fun starts. If I go to taped away stereo and see how this sounds. Okay so there’s all kind of crazy stuff going on there with the feedback already. So basically what I want to do is automate this to do a dub thing in the end of this 2 bar loop. So what I could do is put my automation on latch starting by one double click this start me at bar one and I will turn the wet totally off and I’m just going to let it roll as soon as I hold the button down I’m going to raise that. Now if we view automation you can see tape delay on the wet thus the automation I just drew by pressing and holding with the mouse clicking and holding on the wet and then rapidly moving it up. What I would also like to do is the same thing with the feed back. I’m just actually going to draw it in here so I’m going to bring it down in the beginning so just no feedback at all and the feedback is what will actually give me the multiple returns on the delay so I can actually kind of get it to increase pretty obnoxiously and come down and then it will kind of turn to get more and more and get louder as the loop ends. So you can see so that’s kind of over that two bar and this is actually the delay feedback braising up quickly and they kind die in over the two bars while the wet stays the same on the amount of the echo itself. Sometimes also I like to do a little bit of frequency change in there so as this is on latch which means it’s going to record anything once I click the mouse button on this and then I let go it’s going to stop according so what I can do is kind role off the low end as the feedback is carrying out. Rick: So here are the most watched videos from WinkSound.com community. Mateo: That’s right this videos come members from all over the world who uploaded their videos to WinkSound.com. Now if you have a video, hey if you’re in the area and want to come check out our studios I just want to come hang out with us and upload your videos in person and make sure to hit us up Rick and Mateo at WinkSound.com. Rick: Atabeylive shows us how to create a robotic vocal sound in Ableton live. Atabeylive: First of all we’re going to start off with putting my audio voice in the audio channel. That’s the way it’s supposed to go. Now we’re going to go into our audio fax and take all the code and all the code we’re going to put it right here I the audio track. Now we need a carrier. Carrier to use I like this in dialogues and we then just hit some notes. Code here is noise switch it to external as the audio will use and here autolock channel we’ll just put sad. Rick: Hydlide24 shows us how to create snare. Hydlide: Get the—s to keep it going. You can work another note and then turn this thing on down this little thingy at the top of and that’s your basic phlegm effect. The phlegm only controls the gait of this. It does not control the volume and that is also one of the nasty parts with the fun effect is if you want to create a nicer fun effect you’ll probably have to have to control the volume while you’re doing that and to shut this one up I’m going to use an— instead and we take better instruction but anyway to get the whole party started you could go for a single drum and have the velocity controlling level which means if you take the matrix done on sequence or over here this is our velocity setting right there. The harder you get to trigger it the louder this thing is going to be like so if we are cranking up the temple like this you get this effect. Rick: Now coming fromtoystonoise.com explains the difference between tick and sample based editing in Pro Tools. Fromtoystonoise.com: let’s say we’re in Samba base time and if I select the conductor this region now is floating kind of freely so let’s say this is the loop you just dragged into the screen. Our drum loop you chopped are the same session what should be new is you can say event identified B so here I can say location is going to be a starting point and ending point so if I want to make it exact 2 bars why don’t I say starting at bar 30 ending at bar 32. And now we can see the grids is confined. Mateo: Make sure you follow Winksound on Twitter and Facebook to stay connected to a stream of new videos as well as cool music production links. Twitter.com/WinkSound or search for WinkSound on Facebook. Rick: Next Justin is going to show us how to favorite your plugins in Pro Tools. Mateo: Yeah and if you have an questions for Justin or any of our contributors just enter their name at WinkSound.com and they’ll get your answer right away. Justin: Hey what’s up guys this is Justin@Winksound.com. We’re here today on a beautiful Brooklyn day on top of our studios you know if you guys are ever in town just hit me up Justin@WinkSound.com or any other guys at WinkSound and you know we’ll hang out and get a real action going you know I really taught music production. In this video I’m using production in Pro Tools I’ll show you how to organize all of your plugins you know to get real confusing waves, a lot of stuff going on I’ll show you simple ways so you can really get to what you need so let’s check it out. The first thing you want to do is going to the set up drop down menu then you want to go to preferences and on the display you have basics here and if you go over there, it says organized plugin menus by. So the first one the flat list basically flat list organizes your plugins in one single list alphabetically so I’ll show you that real quick so as you can see some of them are out of place are not in alphabetical order but for the most part as you can see they are. Alright so that’s one way you could organize a plugins another way back in the preferences display and over on to the basics you have category so category basically organizes the plugins based on the kind of plugin it is you know for example EQ dynamics reverb you know you get the idea and whatever plugin doesn’t have a category kind of attached to it, it will be listed in other. So let’s check this out. So as you can see EQ dynamics, shift, reverb, delay, instrument other just the way I like to keep them organized so the other options that you have here for organizing your plugins you have by manufacturer so basically self explanatory it will organize your plugins based on what the manufacturer of that plugin is. You know such as Wave, Digidesign, Bomb Factory. You know you get the idea of that so let’s just check this out real quick. So as you can see Blue Cat Audio, Bomb Factory Digi design, Tune Tracks you know you get the idea and the last one you have last option you have is category and manufacturer so basically this combines both with two levels of menus so the top menu will display a plugins by process category you know for example EQ dynamics you get the idea there and the bottom menu will display the plugin by manufacturer. So check this out so as you can see EQ, Dynamics, Shift, and then on the second menu you have By manufacturer. So it’s really cool you know this could be really helpful because you know when there’s things that you know you need to grab you can just go in there real quick and you know with the manufacturers or what kind it is you know it’s really helpful when mix. Rick: Thanks for watching and if you learned anything make sure to share with your friends. Mateo: That’s right you can share via Twitter, Facebook, come on the site upload your videos and hey if you’re in the area we really need it, come down and check us out and get in touch with us we love to have you by the studio and connect one on one and of course for more music production videos and tutorials like the ones you saw on these videos available 24 hours a day check out winksound.com the new social video network for audio creative.
