Nick Barber: Thanks for joining us here on World Tech Update I’m Nick Barber and welcome to our 100 episode. Thanks for all of your support over the pass two years and making us such a success. Coming up on this week show will take a look out Apple’s announcement from Wednesday the vice news out of Taiwan and Hillary Clinton’s taught on internet freedom. On Wednesday Apple CEO Steve Jobs took the stage and announce the company’s latest creation. Steve Jobs: And we like to show it to you today for the first time and we call it the iPad. Nick Barber: The computers sports a 9.7 HD touch screen and runs on a 1 gigahertz processor develop by Apple. It can run all iPhone applications and Apple will also offer a word processor, spreadsheet and other productivity applications. It will also a comp piece accelerometer, speaker, microphone and Bluetooth 2.1 but no camera, it will start shipping in two months. To talk more about it joining me now from San Francisco is Editorial Direction of MAC world Jason Sneel, Jason what are your taught on Wednesday announcement? Jason Sneel: Well I think Apple had a tougher road on this one that they actually did with the iPhone because everybody sort of got that you have a phone and what the phone might it be. And the iPhone may redefine that a little bit but that was a clear and slot for that quite to fit into. And with this totally product we are all wondering where is it fit because that tablet category didn’t really take off and that’s the reason why so with the iPod Apple has really tried to communicate with it can be fits in people’s lives. And I think it’s a real challenge, I think they’re going to need to doing a lot more of that communication but they did a pretty good story, they really have to sort figure it out where these devices opposed to fit into your life. Nick Barber: Steve Jobs called the browsing experience on the iPad phenomenal and we also saw number of games out on it too. So who is this device targeted at? Jason Sneel: It’s a great question and I think will find out exactly who— over the next 60 days. I think one great instance is going to be people in the home who were like kind of hang on, on the couch and surf the web and check there email and it will also for travel and I think maybe business people a little bit is a lighter device to take with the fact that it has I work on it and that you can attach an external keyboard to it. Make some interesting kind of business device not for hardcore computing but if you just travelling and need basic computing I think there is a possibility that it will be there. Nick Barber: The pricing is what stand a lot of people it starts at $499 and goes up to 829 that was a big play for Apple, what do you think? Jason Sneel: The pricing is fantastic, I don’t know if anybody thought that we would be seeing a product like this and be introduce to 499 and I think that everybody was really thinking well without cellular you know reimburse them from a self carrier that’s going to be a thousand dollars. And Apple came in the net book price range they hit $500 with the base model and then they kind of go up from there if you want more memory there is a 16, 32 and 64 gig model and then you add all a little bit more if you want to cellular connection and then the cell connection is actually a lot cheaper too they saw the $15 a month plan and the $30 a month plan. So everybody who tries to pick the price with this product was too high and this was the price as right you can bid a dollar and you wouldn’t one because everybody was over. Nick Barber: Alright Jason Sneel with with MAC world in San Francisco thanks for coming on. Jason Sneel: Thanks for having me there. Nick Barber: Two weeks ago Google announce that it may exit China because of cyber attacks originating from the country. Late last week US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton spoke about internet freedom. And while official said her talk wasn’t in reaction to China she did address it. Hillary Clinton: Internet is already been a source of tremendous progress in China and it is fabulous. There are so many people in China now online, but countries that restrict free access to information or violate the basic rights of internet users risk walling themselves off from the progress of the next century. At the United States and China have different use on this issue and we intend to address those differences candidly and consistently in the context of our positive cooperative and comprehensive relationship. Nick Barber: Clinton want on to say that China and other countries that sense to the internet run the risks of being left behind the world’s economy. Sony’s play station 3 has been hack by the same hacker that first cracks Apple’s iPhone. It took George Hot to your seeing here at last year iPhone 3G’s launch in Boston five weeks to get rid right access to the entire system memory and high provider level access to the processor. On Tuesday he releases the exploit online and said that it took some very simple hardware cleverly applied and some not so simple software. Play station three consoles typically only run software that has been digitally sign by Sony. For some the prime goal will be to crack the inscription system that insure illegally copy games cannot be played on the console while other will likely be motivated by the technical challenge of running there own software on the powerful play station 3 platform. In our news and brief this week will take a look at some ereaders news out of Taiwan. The new Nreader by Ben Cue launch in Taipei in Wednesday the Nreader has a six inch black and white touch screen and plays music in addition to displaying eBooks. Handwriting capability is scheduled to be added in the next model due in April. Also from Taiwan Delta electronics plans to start marketing a new 13.1 inch colored touch screen ereader and then 8.1 inch monochrome touch screen device. The 13.1 inch reader will use Bridgestone’s color electronic paper technology which has a faster refresh rate than the current technology from E-ink use in amazon’s candle. A faster refresh rate means less time flipping between virtual pages and opens the door to more multi media content. And we run up this week show with video from Afghanistan of a robot that’s working to keep soldier safe. Called the talent is the newest edition to the 211 engineer company that’s charge with a route clearance in Afghanistan. Weighting 115 pounds the robot can help to identify improvise explosive devices or IED’s and assist in collected from the battle field. It has several cameras to monitor its surroundings and can send those images back to its controller. It’s not the first time we’ve seen robots on the battle field but we’re beginning to see more and more of them because they help keep soldiers at the harms away. Well that’s our show for this week thanks for celebrating our 100 episode with us and as promise the few weeks ago we have our winners of the CES bag that we promise to give away.
